Chimney Questions, Answered Straight.

No sales fluff — just clear answers to what DFW homeowners actually ask us about chimney service, pricing, scheduling and safety.

Scheduling & Service

3 questions
How fast can you come out?

A real human answers messages within 2 minutes, 7am to midnight every day — including weekends. We offer same-week scheduling across the DFW Metroplex. For emergencies — active leaks, animals trapped, post-fire damage — a tech is dispatched within 2 hours during business hours.

Do you give a specific arrival time?

Yes. We schedule a 1-hour arrival window, not a 4-hour one, and we text you 30 minutes before the technician arrives with their name and photo.

What areas do you serve?

All of the DFW Metroplex — Dallas, Plano, Frisco, McKinney, Fort Worth, Arlington, Irving, Garland, Richardson, Allen, Denton, Southlake and surrounding communities.

Pricing & Quotes

3 questions
Is the inspection free?

The first inspection is free — we come out, look at the chimney, take photos, and give you a written quote with no obligation. A deep diagnostic (Level 2 with video scope) for insurance or real estate is $199.

Do you provide written quotes before work begins?

Always. You get a written, line-item quote with photos of the issues before we lift a tool. If we find something mid-job, we stop and rewrite the quote for your approval.

Do you offer financing?

Yes — jobs over $1,000 qualify for 12-month 0% APR financing through our partner. Soft credit pull, instant decision, no impact to your score from checking.

Safety & Standards

5 questions
How often should I have my chimney swept?

The NFPA recommends an annual chimney inspection (Level 1), with sweeping done when buildup reaches 1/8" of creosote. For active wood-burning fireplaces, that's typically once per heating season.

Are your technicians certified?

Our chimney inspectors hold current CSIA (Chimney Safety Institute of America) certifications, verifiable via the CSIA member directory at csia.org. We also have NFI specialists for fireplace installations.

What is the Chimney Care Plan membership?

Chimney Care Plan is our annual maintenance program at $19.99/month. It includes an annual Level 1 inspection and sweep ($248 value), priority scheduling, 10% off all repairs, and emergency response priority. Cancel anytime, no contract.

What is creosote and why is it dangerous?

Creosote is the tar-like residue that wood smoke leaves on your flue walls. It builds in three stages — flaky (Stage 1), hard (Stage 2), and glazed (Stage 3) — and it's highly flammable. A creosote-fueled chimney fire can reach 2,000°F and crack your liner. Regular sweeping is the only way to keep it in check.

What's the difference between a Level 1, 2, and 3 inspection?

Per NFPA 211: Level 1 is a visual check of readily accessible areas (annual). Level 2 adds a video scope of the full flue and is required after a property sale, a fuel/appliance change, or a chimney fire. Level 3 involves opening concealed areas when hidden damage is suspected.

Process & What to Expect

4 questions
Will the sweep make a mess in my house?

No. We lay drop cloths, seal the hearth, and run a HEPA-filter vacuum the entire time. The goal is to leave your home as clean as we found it — most customers are surprised there's no dust at all.

How long does a typical job take?

A standard sweep and Level 1 inspection takes about 45–90 minutes. Repairs vary — a cap install is under an hour, while masonry or liner work can take a day or more. We give you a time estimate in the written quote.

Do I need to be home during the service?

For the inspection and quote, yes — so we can walk you through what we find and you can approve any work. For repeat or membership visits where access is arranged, it's not always required.

What happens after the inspection?

You get a written, line-item report with photos of anything we found, a clear recommendation, and a no-obligation quote. There's never pressure — many inspections end with 'everything looks good, see you next year.'

Fireplaces, Gas & Inserts

4 questions
Do you work on gas fireplaces, not just wood?

Yes. We service gas fireplaces, log sets, and inserts — pilots, thermocouples, gas valves, burners, and venting. Gas work is handled by trained technicians and every visit includes a carbon-monoxide safety check.

Can you convert my wood fireplace to gas?

In most cases, yes. We assess your firebox and flue, confirm a sound liner (or install one), and fit a vented or ventless gas log set sized to your fireplace and local code. We'll walk you through the options and trade-offs.

My gas fireplace won't light — can you fix it?

Usually. The most common causes are a worn thermocouple/thermopile, a dirty or failed pilot assembly, or a gas-valve issue — all serviceable. If you smell gas, leave the home and call us (or your gas utility) immediately.

What are refractory panels and do mine need replacing?

Refractory panels are the heat-resistant panels lining a factory-built firebox. Most manufacturers require replacement once cracks exceed about 1/16" — cracked panels expose the metal shell and framing to heat. We'll tell you honestly whether yours can be repaired or need replacing.

Maintenance & Prevention

4 questions
Why does my chimney leak when it rains?

The usual culprits are failed flashing (where the chimney meets the roof), a cracked crown, a missing or rusted cap, or unsealed masonry. We pinpoint the actual entry point rather than guessing — and fix the source, not just the stain.

Should I waterproof my chimney?

In North Texas, yes — it's one of the best-value preventive steps. We use a breathable (vapor-permeable) sealer that blocks rain but lets trapped moisture escape, protecting the brick from freeze-thaw spalling. It's not the same as paint, which traps water and causes damage.

What are signs my chimney needs attention?

White staining (efflorescence) on the brick, flaking or popping brick faces (spalling), a smoky smell when the fireplace is idle, smoke spilling into the room, rust on the cap or firebox, or water/damp around the fireplace. Any of these is worth an inspection.

Do you clean dryer vents and air ducts too?

Yes. Lint-clogged dryer vents are a leading cause of house fires and longer dry times — we clean the full run to the exterior and verify airflow. We also offer air-duct cleaning and sealing for indoor air quality and efficiency.

Insurance, Real Estate & Warranty

3 questions
Do you provide reports for home sales or insurance?

Yes. Our Level 2 inspection ($199) produces an insurance- and real-estate-grade written report with video-scope footage and photos — exactly what's required after a property transfer or for an insurance claim.

Is your work warrantied?

Yes. Workmanship carries a 1-year warranty in writing, and certain materials — like stainless steel liners and caps — carry lifetime manufacturer warranties (transferable to a new owner).

Will insurance cover chimney repairs?

It depends on the cause. Sudden events — chimney fire, lightning, storm or impact damage — are often covered; gradual wear and deferred maintenance usually aren't. Our documented Level 2 report gives you the photos and detail an adjuster needs.
